You need to make a lot of decisions before beginning your final project and do some research. You are doing an original, extensive presentation demonstrating clear comprehension of some philosophical theory as well as an ability to tie it into real-world questions and get fellow teens thinking about its implications.
1. Who are you going to work with? 2. What topic/question will you address? 3. What 3 philosophers (minimum) will you incorporate? 4. How will you fill a minimum of 40 minutes (max 2 blocks)? 5. How will you incorporate media (from TV to Film)? 6. What will your presentation component look like? 7. How will you make it interactive with discussion? 8. How will you grab attention at the opening? 9. How will you grade class participation (yes, you have to)? 10. What kind of format will you use? -Roundtable Seminar -Creative Film/Art piece with Q+A -Team Teaching -And many more options... Your goal is to group up, think, and by the end of the block post as much as you possibly can about your idea for the project. Only one group member needs to post it, but this is a quiz grade based on EFFORT. Make sure you completed the previous blogs, too!

Emi, this rocks, and my only suggestion is to consider prompts for the after-discussion :)

POKE-PROJECT! I love the concept. The activity should be something game-based to go with the pokemon theme :) We'll talk about this!

I'm going to be working on my own for this project. I know that I'll be bringing in Camus on this one. I'm also leaning toward Foucault, Sartre, and Nietzsche. I'm interested in using religion in my project, but I want to do an original analysis. Another topic I think might be cool would be zombies and the lines between life and death and animals and humans.

This guy named David Chalmers has a thought experiment about zombies intended to raise the question of whether a body could function without consciousness, which is traditionally connnected with the idea of the soul. Check this out, it might be fruitful for linking these ideas:

Love this topic. Really compressed a ton of what we've discussed this year in a way that allows us to get more imaginative with it too.

Films always go over well, and you and Erik can easily coordinate working together, ha! So I would recommend going for the movie thing.

I will be working individually, and I want to focus on religion for my topic; particularly dualism and monism. I found St. Thomas Aquinas' ideas interesting, so I will definitely incorporate his ideas. I haven't decided on the other two philosophers yet. I'm thinking of a powerpoint with handouts of notes that I will create (visual based notes). My presentation with consist of a video/clip of something related to the controversy of religion. The presentation will be followed with a discussion; I will brainstorm some questions that will spark conversation.

You could contrast Aquinas with Spinoza. Both of them tried to solve the monism/dualism problem from within their religious view (Christianity for Aquinas, Judaism for Spinoza). But where Aquinas keeps the two-world model and relates them through the idea of Natural Law, Spinoza goes with monism and says God is not separate from the world, but IS the world itself. Hinduism has the same view, while Islam sides with Christianity and is very strict about Dualism. This could make for some cool discussion!

Hume, Nietzsche and Foucault ... they all disagree with the idea of a set-in-stone human nature, they all dislike excessive government control, and they all doubt that human knowledge is anything more than a way of "labeling" the stuff already there in the world. I'd encourage you to consider those comparisons (and to ask me if you have any questions about how to incorporate them into your activities!)

Definitely intrigued by the addition of Gus here. I've been wondering when anyone was gonna notice the invisible mute kid in our class. He has a lot of great ideas, just a little trouble expressing them. I know he's an expect in the intersection of self-actualization and e-fascist apps, so that should be beneficial for your presentation.

oh and i forgot: Im not going to grade based on whether or not they comprehend the information. I want them to apply it. They're going to have to do several things, easy, but they do require effort. First they need to express kindness/appreciation towards someone (appropriately). You could write a letter, call someone up, give someone something or play them a song, REACH OUT and take notice in the good things about them, hence mindfulness!!!!!

Skye, this sounds so awesome! I can't wait - obviously I am partial to the topics of mindfulness and Taoism, and I love your closing activity. I have a bunch of resources on Taoism that I'll bring in for you :)
