How I Operate

Here are the basics of my approach to teaching, influenced by John Dewey's thought on experience and education.
What is Dewey all about?

TEACHING PRACTICES

There are a few core skills I constantly emphasize in both of my classes:

I. Critical Thinking: Theoretical and conceptual analysis of issues

II. Active Reading: Close and careful study of texts with habitual note-making 

III.  Impactful Writing: Clear and engaging expression of thoughts, observations and conclusions after on critical thinking and active reading of key works and concepts.

Some of the most common in-class activities include seminar discussions, group reading and presentation of texts, comparison of different ideas, content-based projects, and mini-lectures or brief video clips for expanding on key concepts.

GRADING POLICY

Each type of assignment has a preset maximum point value.:
10 points for Classwork
15 points for Homework*

20 points for Quizzes
50 points for Tests
75 points for Projects
100 points for Papers**

(Your final average = the total points you earned on all assignments divided into the maximum amount of total points offered over the course of the the marking period.) 



 * Late HW accepted 1 day late for 1/2  maximum points

** Late papers taken up to 2 days late, 15 points off each
